As health care providers we bring our skills, knowledge, care and compassion to the workplace. As humans, we may also bring opinions and biases that influence the way we provide care and lead to invisible barriers between us and our patients. The goals of this conference are to: recognize biases, dispel myths, enhance understanding and foster a respectful, culturally appropriate environment for patients, staff and family members.

With an agenda developed by the UNCH Nursing Diversity Council, this year’s topics are as varied as the people we serve in health care today. Our faculty will provide an ambitious agenda, covering topics ranging from cultural and religious diversity and their impact on healthcare needs, healthcare needs specific to the homeless and refugee populations to transcending stereotypes and the opportunity to interact with a LGBTQ panel. Ivy Hooper, LCSW & Bilingual Psychotherapist, will be facilitating the LGBTQ Discussion Panel. We encourage open and energetic sharing of ideas that will lead to improved provision of competent, compassionate care.
