Helen Haskell will be in the Old Clinic Auditorium on the morning of March 28. Haskell is one of the most influential patient and family advisers/advocates in the world. She is on the Board of Directors for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is Founder and President of Mothers Against Medical Errors, and a book and documentary have been made about the tragic loss of her son Lewis Blackman. You can view much of this story here: http://qsen.org/videos/the-lewis-blackman-story/.
In 2006, Haskell helped start the Family Alert Initiative at N.C. Children's Hospital, empowering families to activate the pediatric rapid response system. The Children's Hospital later received the National Patient Safety Foundation Socius Award in 2007 for the initiative.
