Transition to proactive Radiology scheduling began Sept. 29 at UNC Medical Center, Chatham

To best serve our patients, on Sept. 29 radiology scheduling at UNC Medical Center and Chatham Hospital transitioned to a proactive model that sends radiology orders directly to a radiology workqueue and to the radiology scheduling center to contact patients directly.

Note the following:

  • Radiology orders now include questions pertaining to safety and the location of the delivery of service. These questions are the first step in a transition to proactive radiology scheduling.
  • For providers ordering studies to be performed at Rex, orders go directly to the Rex central scheduling office and the patient will be contacted by Rex central schedulers.
  • UNC Medical Center providers will see the newly added questions included on applicable radiology orders, but the orders will still reside in the referring clinic’s workqueue and use the current clinic directed workflow that has been in place at the Medical Center.
  • UNC Medical Center will transition to this new process for radiology scheduling beginning Monday, Sept. 29:
    • Until Sept. 29:
      • UNC Medical Center providers see the newly added questions included on applicable radiology orders, but the orders still reside in the referring clinic’s workqueue and use the current clinic directed workflow that has been in place at the Medical Center.
      • Clinic staff at UNC Medical Center, Chatham, and UNC Physicians Network West clinics still see the radiology order in the workqueue with safety information included.
    • Before Sept. 29:
      • Clinic staff in these areas must continue to call to schedule the radiology orders in the workqueue with radiology scheduling (984-974-1884).
      • All radiology orders currently in the sending clinic’s workqueue must be worked, resolved or scheduled by Sept. 28, 2014. The goal is for all orders to be scheduled or resolved prior to the transition with the expectation that the clinics will not transfer the radiology orders that were placed prior to Sept. 28, 2014.
    • Beginning Sept. 29:
      • Radiology orders will flow directly to the radiology schedulers in all other Epic@UNC locations except for the following UNC Medical Center clinics: transplant, oncology, and select locations in heart and vascular. For these locations, the radiology scheduling process will remain the same.
      • A tip sheet for Provider Radiology Order Entry is available at this link.
