After 19 days on the transplant list, 3-year-old, Bradelyn Douglas received a transplant at UNC Hospitals on July 2, 2013. It was a landmark for the transplant program at UNC.

Open house training sessions on the new phones being installed across UNC Hospitals will be held all day Friday, Feb. 20, in Starbucks Conference Room A and B. All employees are invited to these sessions to learn more about new phones and new phone numbers at UNC Hospitals.

Effective March 2, 2015, the start time for the first dose of medications for inpatients will round to the next hour instead of the next 15 minutes. The Pharmacy Departments at UNC Hospitals, Rex and Chatham requested this change and it has been approved by the Clinical Informatics Council (CIC) and Epic@UNC Physicians Informatics Council (ePIC).

Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Epic@UNC Training Library (tip sheets, quick start guides, etc.) will look different as the library will move to SharePoint. The biggest change users will notice is that the search functionality in the Training Library is much more effective in SharePoint.
Clinton Pierce, a Cherry Point Marine, returned home from a six-month deployment and saw his son Lennox, a patient at UNC Children's, walk for the first time with the use of prosthetics.
Prior to February, there were two different sites to access the NeoFax web system in Epic@UNC (one for UNC Medical Center and one for Rex). Now all users will access NeoFax through one link. In Epic@UNC, we have modified the link within in the "References" dropdown menu to point users to the new NeoFax link. The new version of NeoFax also utilizes an auto-login.
On Feb. 16, the Epic@UNC Playground environment will be updated to the 2014 version and all Epic@UNC classes will begin training on the 2014 content. Use the playground logins provided in your 2014 Upgrade section of the Epic@UNC Training Library (https://share.unch.unc.edu/sites/etd/2014%20Upgrade) to try the new features that are coming.
Television service at UNC Hospitals will be upgraded this Spring across the hospital in response to Time Warner Cable upgrading from analog to digital service. In preparation for this upgrade, Clearwire Network, our vendor for TV service, will conduct a walkthrough of UNC Hospitals on Friday, Feb. 20, throughout the day and into the evening to check the HDTV models, check how TVs are mounted and connected, check the signal level at the outlet with a meter, and verify the condition of the outlet itself.
As Telecommunications continues to upgrade phones across UNC Hospitals, many of the new 984 numbers are now available in the WebXChange directory. Additionally, on the left-hand column of WebXChange, there are links to an Excel file providing a cross-reference of old (919) to new (984) numbers, a frequently dialed numbers list, documentation on the new phones being installed, and project news/FAQs.
