Nurse Resident Abstracts Selected by the UHC for Presentation at the Annual Meeting

Six former Nurse Residents will be representing UNC Medical Center and presenting their projects at the University HealthSystems Consortium (UHC) Annual Meeting March 3 - 5, 2015.

The UHC has selected three abstracts submitted by UNC Medical Center Nurse Residents for presentation at the Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, March 3 - 5, 2015. 

Selected for a podium presentation was the project of Luis Serpa, RN, BSN, and Sheena Hilton, RN, BSN, from the CTICU on “Continuous vs Intermittent Wound VAC Therapy in Patients Undergoing Open Chest Management with Delayed Sternal Closure.”

Two additional projects were selected for poster presentations:

"Impact of Early Mobilization of NSICU Patients on Delirium Scores, Measured by CAM ICU" by Mandy Mangum, RN, ADN, and Liz Williams, RN, BSN (NSICU)

"Improving Family Centered Communication in the BICU in the 1st 72 Hours" by Audrey Boyles, RN, BSN, Kamron Lusk, RN, BSN, Kimberly Hulin, RN, BSN, and Yvonne Chau, RN, BSN (BICU).

The projects were completed to meet the requirements of the Nurse Residency Program, designed to help them transition from advanced beginners into competent professionals who provide clinical leadership at the point of care and incorporate research-based evidence into their practice.
