Burke has worked with the UNC Center for Innovation since 2013 on developing transformational programs for UNC Health Care and the UNC School of Medicine. He is an established thought leader on health care analytics, data sciences, strategy and innovation. Prior to joining UNC, he was the founder, managing director and chief strategist for the SAS Center for Health Analytics and Insights.
The decision to create this new function was a part of a larger UNC Health Care effort to continue our growth as one of the nation's leading public academic health care systems. Many aspects of the industry transformations underway (e.g., value-based redesign, quality management, population health programs, personalized and precision medicine) require more sophisticated forms of data and analytics in order to operate effectively.
To meet these needs, Burke and his team will lead the development of new analytics and data sciences capabilities across the entire UNC Health Care System that will enable us to make better decisions about the patients we serve and the care we provide. Working collaboratively with units across the system, this new function will help cultivate data assets by which we make strategic and operational decisions; develop advanced analytical insights into our clinical, financial, and administrative performance; and help support the data and analytical needs of our clinical and business areas.
