Recipients of the award submission are Drs. Benyam Muluneh, Aimee Faso, Molly Schneider, John Valgus, Lindsey Amerine, Rowell Daniels, Brett Crisp, and Scott Savage. The submission was titled, “Impact of an Integrated, Closed-loop, Pharmacy-led Oral Chemotherapy Program on Clinical and Financial Outcomes,” and was the culmination of the collaboration of building a robust clinical oral chemotherapy program with clinical pharmacists embedded into clinics with our UNC SSC Pharmacy providing the dispensing of the oral chemotherapy. The clinical data collected highlights that our patients have better adherence rates and better major molecular response rates, which directly correlate to improved patient outcomes, than clinical trials. Patient and provider satisfaction has also been high with the program. The recipients were honored at the 2015 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Stephen Eckel has been awarded ASHP’s Preceptor of the Year Award. This is a prestigious honor that is given to a single individual annually. The award recognizes the achievements of residency practitioners who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the training of pharmacy residents and fosters innovations in pharmacy residency training. This is the culmination of Stephen’s years of leading and building our residency program as well as mentoring and precepting residents. Since inception of the award in 2006, Stephen is the first preceptor from UNC to win the Preceptor of the Year Award. Stephen was recognized at the 2015 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.
