Vocera Unified Communications rollout begins July 25 at UNC Hospitals

ISD is leading a project to develop a ‘Unified Communications Platform’ across UNC Health Care with the goal of allowing individual providers and groups to communicate with each other more efficiently and securely through voice calling and secure texting. Vocera is the vendor selected for this project.

Rollout schedule at UNC Hospitals
Vocera is already in use at the Hillsborough Campus. The rollout at UNC Hospitals will begin July 25 across a number of ancillary departments. The schedule of department rollouts is posted at this Intranet link.

Using Vocera
Hospital staff will use either a lightweight hands-free device or a smartphone app to access voice calling and secure-texting features. You can learn more about Vocera at www.vocera.com.

Education prior to the Rollout

  • Vocera education is available in LMS for all staff.
    • In LMS, search for ‘UNCHISDVOC_ENDUSER’ or ‘Vocera End User Training’ and then click ‘Register’ > ‘Submit’ > ‘Start’ to begin the training.
    • We recommend that Ancillary Departments begin reviewing the LMS materials July 11 and ensure all staff complete the modules by July 25.
    • All other departments should begin reviewing the modules by July 25 and ensure staff complete the modules by the appropriate date listed in the rollout schedule.
  • ISD also will train Super Users on the units and ancillary teams.
