Infection prevention initiatives throughout the hospital are critical to reducing healthcare-associated infections, readmissions to the hospital, and patient mortality. In addition, healthcare-associated infection metrics are publicly reportable and our hospital reimbursement rates are dependent on our provision of the safest patient care we can deliver. Everyone can play a role in infection prevention, from participation in our hospital’s Clean In, Clean Out hand hygiene program to adhering to isolation precautions signs posted on the patient’s doors to advocating for our patients to have devices (e.g., central lines and foley catheters) removed as soon as possible.

We are reinvesting these dollars in infrastructure and services that will allow us to better serve the citizens of North Carolina. However, we still have work to do.
