Writing for Resilience
Writing for Resilience, a weekly writing group, meets every Tuesday from noon - 1 p.m. in the John M. Reeves Memorial Chapel. It is open to all in the hospital and community. No writing experience is necessary.
Monogramming Event at Cranberry Corner Gift Shop
The UNC Volunteer Association will sponsor a monogramming event on Nov. 7 - 9. It will be held in the main hospital lobby outside the Cranberry Corner Gift Shop.

Update on Fluid Shortages Impacting UNC Health Care
As much as 10% of all pharmaceuticals consumed in the US are made in Puerto Rico. Due to the hurricanes recently hitting the island, drug manufacturing has been compromised. UNC Health Care Hospitals Earn High Marks for Safety from the Leapfrog Group
We’re proud to report that UNC Medical Center, UNC REX Healthcare, High Point Regional and Johnston Health earned “A” grades for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group for their commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients. TDap Recommendations for Health Care Providers
Effective Nov. 1, 2017, Occupational Health will begin accepting receipt of a single Tdap – regardless of age when the vaccine was administered – as meeting the requirement for pertussis immunization. As with all other vaccines, written documentation of vaccine receipt is required.
Inpatient Staff: CPM Care Plan and Education Upgrade Following Nov. 5 Downtime
CPM Care Plan & Education templates will be upgraded to their Spring 2017 versions on Nov. 5 during the planned Epic@UNC downtime. Staff will not need to do anything different with charting until Nov. 19.
Patient Safety Culture Survey Open Through Nov. 10
UNC Medical Center staff and faculty with direct patient care responsibility (inpatient and outpatient settings) or those whose work takes them to direct patient care areas are invited to participate in the Patient Safety Culture Survey, which is open now through Nov. 10.
Planned HR Server Downtime
The PREP, MetLaw, ORP and TSAccess HR systems will be offline on Monday, Nov. 6, from 4 – 6 p.m. for server maintenance.

Our 2017 fiscal year (FY17), which ran from July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2017, was a great success thanks to everyone at UNC Medical Center. We appreciate all of your hard work that contributed to meeting and exceeding our organization goals. As a result of this outstanding performance, all eligible employees received an incentive payment Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Visitor restrictions begin Nov. 6 for the NCCC, PICU and BMTU
There were two cases of pediatric RSV at UNC last week which triggers the Flu Alert visitor restrictions for children aged 11 years old and younger (under 12) for the NCCC, PICU and BMTU. In order to facilitate a smoother transition to restriction of childhood visitation and to accommodate the families who have to travel and arrange for child care, visitation restrictions will begin Monday Nov. 6, 2017.
Aeroscout/MobileView downtime planned for Nov. 13 from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.
The Aeroscout/MobileView system will be down from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13 for software upgrades.
Are you flu compliant yet?
Medical staff, contract workers, students, volunteers, vendors, and any School of Medicine employees identified as providing service in one of UNC Hospitals or in our off-campus locations are required to become flu compliant by receiving a flu vaccine or confirming religious or medical exemption by Dec. 4. Ambulatory Providers: In Basket Follow-up Reminders now active
The “Remind me to” option in In Basket, which is available in the 'Follow-up' section of the visit navigator, began sending reminder messages as of Oct. 24. Messages providers choose to be reminded about will be sent on a daily basis based on the “Days after encounter closes” entered in the 'Remind me to" field.
Planned Downtime for Aeroscout/Mobileview
The Aeroscout/MobileView system will be down from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 13 for software upgrades. This downtime will affect all entities currently using the Aeroscout system: UNC Medical Center (including Hillsborough, Wakebrook, SSC, outpatient locations), Rex, Rex H&V, and Pardee. Aeroscout asset tracking, environmental monitoring, staff duress tag alerting, patient tracking, and patient flow will be unavailable during this time. Please follow your standard downtime procedures.
