Getting ready for Irma

Central North Carolina is expected to experience a period of inclement weather Monday through Wednesday in association with Hurricane Irma. Here are a few tips to make sure you and your family are prepared.

The primary hazards in our areas are expected to be gusty winds and heavy rains.  As always, please exercise caution when traveling and remember never to cross a flooded roadway.

UNC Medical Center will be operating under normal conditions at this time. Please use this time to review and your family and personal preparedness plans.  The links below offer planning resources:

Please ensure you and your family have made the necessary preparations to:

  • Keep cell phones and pagers charged
  • Review your departmental emergency preparedness plans
  • Review the resources available at https://www.ready.gov/hurricanes
  • Check on your neighbors, family and friends who may have difficulty during severe weather incidents
  • Additional preparedness tips and resources can be found on the Emergency Preparedness Intranet page.

As the situation develops, we will post updates on the Intranet home page and UNC Medical Center's social media accounts (Twitter & Facebook).
