Based on recommendations from the Carolina Value Care Access and Physician Solutions teams, UNC Health Care is creating a new department, Patient Access and Clinical Integration.

This new department will be responsible for a number of duties related to access and referral management across UNC Health Care, including administration, governance, analytics, project management, change management, process improvement, provider data management, and template oversight and optimization. The department will partner with clinic managers, medical directors, and executives at each UNC Health Care entity to ensure the effectiveness of policies and procedures at the local level.

The leadership team for the new Patient Access and Clinical Integration department is:

  • Ashley Arey, MHA, Director
During her 10+ years at UNC Health Care, Ashley has managed outpatient clinics and gained significant experience in patient access & efficiency, operations optimization, and Lean Six Sigma process improvement. She was most recently the Director of Clinic Business Operations for UNC Hospitals Pain Management Center, UNC Hospitals’ OB-GYN clinics, and Outpatient Care Services Operations Improvement. Ashley will report to me in this new role.
  • Sam Weir, MD, Executive Medical Director
Dr. Weir is a practicing physician in the UNC Department of Family Medicine. He also serves UNC Health Care as Director of the Primary Care Improvement Collaborative (PCIC) and as a Lead Informatics Physician (LIP) with the Epic@UNC team. Dr. Weir has worked with ambulatory practices across UNC Health Care to improve patient access and clinic operations and as a consultant to other health care systems in the U.S. and Canada. Dr. Weir will report to me in this new role.
  • Delaine McNeil, Manager of Access and Provider Data Management
Delaine served as an integral part of the Revenue Cycle team and a key leader of UNC Health Care’s scheduling and template management implementations and processes. Delaine was also heavily involved with the Admissions/Registration operations at UNC Medical Center and our off-site ancillaries. Delaine will report to Ashley Arey in this new role.

UNC Health Care’s Physician Practice Management Committee will provide governance and set goals and expectations for the Patient Access and Clinical Integration team. The team will receive support from multiple departments, including Carolina Value Solution Teams, Revenue Cycle, Marketing, ISD, UNC Health Alliance, Physician Relations, etc.

Please join me in congratulating and supporting Ashley, Dr. Weir, and Delaine as they begin their new roles beginning Aug. 29, 2016.
