Drs. Rupali Shah and Robert Buckmire, our experts in the Division of Laryngology, Department of Otolaryngology/HNS recommend the following tips for a healthy voice.

  1. Hydrate
  2. Get adequate rest/sleep
  3. Moderate caffeine and alcohol consumption
  4. Moderate drying medications such as antihistamines
  5. Do not smoke
  6. Avoid foods that increase likelihood of reflux (i.e. spicy/acidic goods, fatty foods, caffeine, alcohol, and tomato-based foods)
  7. Avoid screaming in noisy situations (i.e. use noisemakers instead of shouting at sporting events)
  8. Talk to your doctor or schedule an appointment with our voice specialists if you have experienced hoarseness for over 2 weeks
