The UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has named Yolanda Scarlett, MD, as the new Director for Underrepresented Trainee Access and Success.


The UNC School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has named Yolanda Scarlett, MD, as the new Director for Underrepresented Trainee Access and Success. Dr. Scarlett is a proud alumnus of the UNC School of Medicine, as well as a graduate of the UNC Dept. of Internal Medicine Residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship. She is a North Carolina native and spent her formative years in Orange and Durham counties.

In her director role, Dr. Scarlett will work to recruit clinical trainees from underrepresented and historically marginalized groups in medicine.  Dr. Scarlett’s lead efforts will be focused on the recruitment advancement, and success of minoritized clinical trainees and connecting them to our community.

Dr. Scarlett will collaborate with our Program Coordinator to lead recruitment programs such as, Carolina First Look, SNMA Recruitment Events, Carolina Second Look, and the Resident Diversity Initiative (RDI) for clinical trainees.
