Upcoming maintenance on shared file services scheduled for Saturday, October 5

On Saturday, October 5th at 9:00 a.m., School of Medicine IT will perform a major upgrade to the School of Medicine file services used by many departments within the School. Typically staff access the file services through the H:, J:, and S: drives on Microsoft Windows computers. The upgrade should not be, and has not been during past updates, disruptive to file services.

Improving Data Access and Analysis through Implementation of SAP HANA (Carolina Data Warehouse for Health 3.0)

The CDW-H 3.0 project will introduce a virtual access layer into the data integration environment. ISD is currently collaborating with key partners and business stakeholders to complete this project. The CDWH3.0 project team selected the SAP HANA platform to support UNCHCS’s move to a virtual access layer, and is on track for an initial go-live targeted for October 2019.

Fake CDC Emails Warning of Flu Pandemic Push Ransomware

ISD’s Information Security Division has received reports of phishing emails that claim to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warning of flu pandemic. Attached to the emails is a malicious attachment that when opened will install the GandCrab v5.2 Ransomware on the target's computer.

2-Step Verification required for Office 365 in November

2-Step Verification required for Office 365 in November

2-Step Verification will soon be required to access Office 365, which includes email, calendar and OneDrive, among many other applications. School of Medicine faculty and staff will be required to use 2-Step in early November. The mandatory 2-Step for Office 365 will be a phased rollout from November 1st - 8th. In preparation for this, several dedicated 2-Step Help Clinics will be available throughout the School of Medicine.
