A new study, led by investigators in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the UNC School of Medicine, reveals how dietary changes significantly reduce persistent post-traumatic headaches, a common and debilitating consequence of traumatic brain injury.

Springer recently released "Chronic Illness Care, Principles and Practice," edited by UNC Family Medicine's Timothy P. Daaleman, DO, MPH, and Margaret R. Helton, MD. Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine, faculty across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, and other national and international experts wrote the textbook.

An ad hoc committee has been appointed to undertake a routine review of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the leadership of its chair, Joshua J. Alexander, MD, Sidna Chockley Rizzo Distinguished Professor. The review is a standard procedure of UNC-Chapel Hill and will take place on March 29.

In January 2022, Norfleet-Raney Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery Joseph M. Hart, PhD, was named Vice Chair for Research for UNC Orthopaedics. Preceding his arrival at UNC, Hart held multiple appointments over a 20+-year career at University of Virginia in UVA’s Departments of Kinesiology and Orthopaedic Surgery as a professor, clinical researcher and department leader.

The Eshelman Institute for Innovation recently opened its pre-proposal application for the 2022 annual grant cycle. The Institute seeks to fund translational research related to therapeutics focused on oncology, infectious disease, and neuroscience, including rare diseases, and all digital health technologies. The Institute also welcomes ideas for devices and diagnostics, and other therapeutic areas and services.

Nailah Adams-Morancie, MD, MS, CAQSM, Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship based at UNC Family Medicine, represented sports medicine and family medicine as official team physician for Trinidad and Tobago at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
