Children’s Research Institute Seminar Series: “Cultivating Health: Leveraging Microbial Ecology for Women’s Health Innovation”

February 13 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Dr. Hood Pishchany is a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician whose research explores microbial ecology of the vaginal microbiome and the microbiome’s role in pregnancy and women’s health. Her work spans from fundamental microbiology to preclinical studies with the aim of improving women’s health through the development of microbiome-targeted therapies. She has developed novel methods for cultivating complex microbial communities ex vivo. This work enables a reductionistic approach to understand interactions and dynamics that shape the vaginal microbiome, while also providing a new platform for testing new therapies.
