MHI Seminar Series presents Zoltan Arany, M.D., Ph.D., Samuel Bellet Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

December 8, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

About the Principal Investigator:  The focus of Dr. Arany’s laboratory is on the regulatory mechanisms that underlie metabolic pathophysiology in the cardiovascular system. Dr. Arany has studied metabolism for many years, and has extensive experience investigating cardiac, muscle, and systemic metabolic physiology in mouse models. His lab uses state-of-the-art mass spectrometry, in vivo steady-state heavy isotope-labeling, and a wide variety of ‘omic approaches to probe deeply into whole-body metabolic homeostasis and alterations in diabetes and heart failure. In addition, they routinely leverage access to human tissue and plasma, and human genetics. Dr. Arany is Director of the Cardiovascular Metabolism Program, jointly at the Cardiovascular Institute and Institute of Diabetes Obesity and Metabolism at the University of Pennsylvania. He is deeply committed to both pre- and post-doctoral training, and has trained dozens of pre- and post-doctoral fellows. He is also the current Chair of the Cellular Physiology and Metabolism Graduate Program, and Scientific Director of the UPenn Metabolomics Core Facility. Finally, he is also an active clinical cardiologist, and devotes considerable interest and effort to teach and mentor, in the classroom and on the clinical wards, as well as in his own laboratory.
