CIDD Investigator Forum: David Mandell, ScD
"The cost of treating (and not treating) autism." Abstract: A recent estimate suggests that the annual incremental cost associated with autism is $137 billion a year in the United States. This is a big number, but how is it calculated and what does it mean? What portion of these costs are due to appropriate care and what portion would be preventable if we provided better care? This presentation will review what is known regarding the costs associated with autism, how they are calculated, and the effects of various policies, including autism insurance mandates and Medicaid waivers, on autism care and costs.
