Voice Over IP phone transition update

Firewall Project for the School of Medicine
Universities including UNC are under constant threat from cyber attackers trying to access personal information and intellectual property. The Office of Information Services (OIS) has completed an assessment of all the devices on the School of Medicine network.

New Workstation Management Tool
OIS will remotely install a new management tool on all Microsoft Windows workstations beginning April 15. This new tool will install a client agent, Configuration Manager, and new anti-virus software, Endpoint Protection. Only Microsoft Windows workstations that are joined to the domain ad.unc.edu will be affected, and machines will install this software on reboot only. Read on for more details and screenshots related to the installation.

​​ISD is in the process of updating the Citrix Receiver client software on PCs in preparation for the new MyApps (updated Citrix platform). The update takes approximately 15 minutes and requires PCs to reboot twice. For your convenience, we recommend that you proactively install the update.

UNC-Guest Wireless to be discontinued on November 29
ITS plans to permanently remove the wireless access channel known as UNC-Guest from the UNC campus network on Wednesday, November 29. It is being replaced by a more robust and more secure access channel labeled as UNC-Guest-PSK. Read more for information on how to connect to UNC-Guest-PSK.

OIS Security: Microsoft Outlook App
The new Outlook App for iOS and Android has been blocked by campus due to security concerns.

UNC Secure Wireless Change Takes Effect May 7
On May 7th, 2015, changes will be made to UNC’s secure wireless network. The campus is migrating to a secure configuration known as “Eduroam”. Eduroam allows registered users to connect as a guest to the network of any other participating institution without needing to register your device at that institution.
