UNC's ASAM Waiver Training Course - Tuesday, Nov 6th
UNC Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers can take an active role in fighting the Opioid Epidemic. UNC ECHO for MAT is partnering with ASAM to provide a training course that covers evidence-based practices and medications for treatment of Opioid Use Disorder. This Half-Half course offers a 4 hour, self-paced online component combined with a 4 hour, in person training located at UNC. After completing the 8 hours of training, physicians will be able to apply for a DEA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (APPs will need an additional 16 hours of training).

Wendell Yarbrough, MD, MMHC, "HPV Associated Cancer Evolution of a Disease from Initial Description to Targeted Therapy"
HPV-associated head & neck squamous cell carcinoma (HPV+ HNSCC) was unrecognized until the late 1990s, but since that its incidence has dramatically increased in the United States making it the most frequently diagnosed cancer caused by HPV. Most knowledge about HPV carcinogenesis comes from study of uterine cervical cancer, but several differences between uterine cervical cancer and HPV+ HNSCC led us and others to identify molecular differences that support a new mechanism through which HPV causes human cancer.
