VIDEO: UNC study on venous leg ulcers featured on WRAL
A topical spray used to treat chronic venous leg ulcers has shown a 52 percent greater likelihood of wound closure than the use of bandages, according to a study conducted in part at the School of Medicine.

Vote to elect faculty representatives to the School of Medicine’s Post-Tenure Review Committee
Earlier this summer, faculty endorsed proposed amendments to the UNC School of Medicine Constitution and Bylaws by majority vote. One such change is the addition of two elected faculty representatives to the School of Medicine’s Post-Tenure Review Committee. Full professors with tenure who have successfully completed a Post-Tenure Review within the past two years are eligible to stand for election. Please be on the lookout for your email invitation to vote in this year’s Post-Tenure Review Committee Faculty Representative Election.

Weil and Bass to lead UNC School of Medicine's Interprofessional Education efforts
Amy Weil, MD, professor of medicine, will serve as director of Interprofessional Education. Candra Bass, MD, assistant professor of anesthesiology, will serve as associate director. Weil and Bass will work closely with counterparts from UNC's other health affairs schools to foster and promote interprofessional training opportunities for all students.

Welcoming Andrea Hayes-Jordan, New Chief of Pediatric Surgery
This week, Andrea Hayes-Jordan, MD, FACS, FAAP, joins the UNC School of Medicine Department of Surgery as Professor and Chief of Pediatric Surgery, as well as Surgeon in Chief for UNC Children's Hospital. In this interview, Hayes-Jordan discusses her groundbreaking work with desmoplastic small round cell tumors, the technique she perfected for previously inoperable pediatric patients, and how divine intervention played a role in her choice of specialty.
