Why now? Why Epic?

The goal of the Epic@UNC project is to develop a system with "one patient ID, one problem list, one medication list, and one bill" for each patient at all UNC Health Care locations.

It is increasingly critical to have one integrated suite of clinical and financial products that provide coordinated, real-time data for our patients, providers and outside parties. This will save time for our patients and providers while offering better data for our caregivers and researchers.

Our next milestone is a systemwide Epic@UNC upgrade scheduled for April 6, 2019. View details (Intranet link).

With eight hospitals (Caldwell, Chatham, Johnston, Nash, Pardee, UNC Medical Center, UNC REX, and Wayne) and more than 700 clinics already using Epic@UNC, we also remain focused on improving the experience and efficiency of the system for our providers and staff to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

Epic@UNC is a large investment in the future of UNC Health Care and the future of all North Carolinians. We believe it will serve as the foundation of a strong UNC Health Care for decades to come.
