Several changes will be made to the leadership structure of UNC Faculty Physicians in the coming months. These changes come in anticipation of the retirement of Al Daugird, MD, on March 1, 2017.
UNC Faculty Physicians, the clinical service component of the UNC School of Medicine, and a part of UNC Physicians, is made up of more than 1,200 faculty members who provide a full range of primary care and specialty services.
- As previously announced, Matt Ewend, MD, will assume the role of President of UNC Physicians effective March 1.
- Matt Mauro, MD, will remain as CEO of UNC Faculty Physicians. In addition to this role, he will serve as Co-Senior Executive of Revenue Cycle Management, working alongside Mark Miller, CPA, MBA, UNC Health Care’s Senior Vice President for Finance. He will assume these additional responsibilities March 1.
- John Lewis, MBA, will step down from his position as Chief Operating Officer of UNC Faculty Physicians to focus on his responsibilities as UNC Health Care’s Chief Financial Officer. He will, however, serve as Senior Advisor to the UNC Faculty Physicians CEO.
- David Zvara, MD, will join the UNC Faculty Physicians’ leadership, replacing Lewis as Chief Operating Officer effective Jan. 1. He will retain his current appointment as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology.
