A highly respected teacher and physician, Chuang has held multiple leadership roles across the School of Medicine in the realm of medical education. She serves as director of undergraduate medical education for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Co-Director of the Application Phase of the TEC Curriculum.
Chuang also serves as President of the Academy of Educators and was honored as a Medical Alumni Distinguished Professor from 2013-2017.
As a medical educator, Chuang has particular interests in teaching professionalism, preparing learners for life after medical school and residency, the appropriate use of technology in education, and combatting burnout.
“Alice is a talented educator who has broad experience in our SOM. Her knowledge of the clinical curriculum, familiarity with our campus system across the state of North Carolina, and connection with faculty through the advisory college and the Academy of Educators make her extremely well prepared to optimize student advising in our school. We are grateful for her leadership,” said Julie Byerley, MD, MPH, Vice Dean for Education at the UNC School of Medicine.
In addition, Chuang maintains an active practice in general OB-GYN and staffs the gynecologic ultrasound unit in the Department of Radiology.
Chuang obtained her undergraduate degree in applied mathematics at Harvard University. She then returned to her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to complete both medical school and residency training at the University of Tennessee. She stayed there as an instructor for two years before coming to UNC in 2003. In 2016, she completed her Master of Education from the University of Cincinnati.
