The NC Jaycee Burn Center serves as a resource for North Carolina and the entire Southeastern United States. In an effort to ensure that patients from across the region continue to receive the highest quality care, the Burn Center’s leadership structure will be realigned. As a part of this streamlined approach, David Gerber, MD, George F. Sheldon Distinguished Professor of Surgery, will take on additional leadership roles.
As the current Chief of the Department of Surgery’s Burn Division, Gerber will oversee burn service delivery and now also serve as Medical Director and Service Leader of the Burn Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Felicia Williams, MD, will assume the new role of Associate Division Chief of the Burn Division.
Gerber will continue to serve as the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Surgery and the Medical Director of UNC Health Care Center for Transplant Care. In this latter role, Gerber leads the multidisciplinary clinical operations for adult and pediatric programs in kidney, liver, heart, lung, and pancreas transplant.
To ensure a continued successful partnership with our clinical and ancillary teams, Gerber will work closely with Angela Overman, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Director of Inpatient Surgery Services at UNC Hospitals . Overman has been with UNC Health Care for 15 years and in her current position for the last five. She has led significant improvement and patient safety efforts and serves on the Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) and Mortality Reduction Core teams.
Larry Marks, MD, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and a senior physician leader in quality and safety, will provide oversight for Gerber, Overman, and other care team leaders to ensure the highest levels of burn care at UNC. Over the course of Marks’ career, he has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of multiple programs locally at UNC, and nationally, to improve patients’ clinical outcomes.
