UNC-Chapel Hill Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences Dr. Stephanie Sjoblad was recently awarded the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Academy of Audiology. The award is given by asking colleagues, friends, and mentees in their professional circles to nominate colleagues who deserve recognition for outstanding service to audiology and the hearing sciences.

Dr. Joe Grisham passed away on January 29th, 2025. Dr. Grisham was the Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from 1973-1999. He oversaw the creation of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine, along with Bill McLendon, conducted impactful NIH research in liver pathology, and was a recipient of the American Society of Investigative Pathology’s highest honor, the Gold-Headed Cane Award.

UNC School of Medicine’s Living Donor Liver Transplant program has been recognized by the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) as a center with expertise to offer Living Donor Liver Transplants. Sorabh Kapoor, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplantation, will serve as the Surgical Director of the program.
