On October 24, we welcomed new members of the UNC School of Medicine faculty at our 4th Annual New Faculty Orientation. The new members of our Carolina family met other faculty and leaders from across the School of Medicine. The orientation is an annual event organized by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development.
On October 24, we welcomed new members of the UNC School of Medicine faculty at our 4th Annual New Faculty Orientation. The new members of our Carolina family met other faculty and leaders from across the School of Medicine. The orientation is an annual event organized by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development.
Last week, 50 new faculty members gathered at the Carolina Club for a New Faculty Orientation hosted by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development. The new faculty members represented 17 departments across the School of Medicine and heard from 30 different faculty and staff who covered a wide range of offices and resources.
The morning started with a performance by the UNC Clef Hangers, Carolina’s oldest a cappella group, then launched into presentations by School of Medicine leaders about topics ranging from the makeup of the UNC School of Medicine and Health Care System, medical education and our commitment to positive relationships with learners, and well-being initiatives available to all faculty and staff. There was also a session on being intentional with your career development, and a breakout session on inclusive excellence at Carolina.
Throughout the day, new members of the faculty were able to interact with fellow faculty across departments as well as department chairs and administrators. There was also a panel discussion with faculty who shared personal stories about their varied career pathways and tips for navigating the SOM environment. The day ended with an opportunity to meet exhibitors and learn about a variety of SOM and university resources for faculty.
The Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development hosts events throughout the year, and the faculty orientation is offered each October. Save the date for our next orientation on October 15, 2020.
