UNC School of Medicine alum Kizzmekia Corbett, PhD, NIH scientific lead for COVID-19 vaccine development, was named to the list as a rising star and innovator in the scientific community.

TIME Magazine heralded three North Carolinians in its annual TIME 100Next list, including UNC School of Medicine alum Kizzmekia Corbett, PhD, who received her doctorate from UNC-Chapel Hill in microbiology and immunology in 2014. She is currently the scientific lead of the Vaccine Research Center’s coronavirus team at the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

For the TIME list, Anthony Fauci, MD, wrote the brief profile of Corbett. The entire list is accessible here.

The News & Observer featured Corbett and two other North Carolinians on the list — country artist Luke Combs and actress and model Hunter Schafer — in the second annual TIME100 Next List, which is an expansion of the magazine’s flagship TIME100 franchise.
