UNC Medical Center, UNC REX, and Johnston Health earn spots on magazine’s 2021 list.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – March 4, 2021 – UNC Health is proud to announce that three of its hospitals are included on Newsweek Magazine’s prestigious annual ranking of the “World’s Best Hospitals.”

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, UNC REX Hospital in Raleigh and Johnston Health in Smithfield and Clayton are among only 330 hospitals nationwide to make the list. Newsweek noted that its ranking “is intended to be a resource to help patients make a more informed and data driven decision when choosing the right hospital for their medical needs.”

“We appreciate this recognition by Newsweek, which reflects the hard work and compassion of our co-workers and physicians every day, especially during the past year of the pandemic,” said Dr. Wesley Burks, CEO of UNC Health. “During this critical time in health care, our hospitals have continued to fulfill our mission of improving the health of all North Carolinians. As the pandemic enters a second year, we pledge to continue those efforts.”

Newsweek’s ranking of the World’s Best Hospitals 2021 recognizes the best medical institutions across 25 countries. The list used data from key metrics such as safety, hygiene and quality of treatment, patient experience surveys and an international online survey that included more than 74,000 doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals.

The World’s Best Hospitals 2021 ranking was released on Newsweek.com on March 3, and the top performing hospitals will also be featured in an upcoming print edition of Newsweek Magazine.
