CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC Health has named Jeff Lindsay as its new President and Chief Operating Officer.
Lindsay will begin his new role at UNC Health in late December. He will report to Dr. Wesley Burks, CEO of UNC Health, and help oversee daily operations of the state’s leading academic and community health system.
Lindsay joins UNC Health following a 27-year career at Novant Health, where he held several positions. For the past nine years Jeff served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Novant, where his focus has been on developing the internal infrastructure to enable a high-performing and high-quality enterprise. He also has a strong commitment to reducing health disparities.
“Jeff has an impressive track record of improving care and access to care across North Carolina,” Burks said. “I’m confident that he will be a great fit for UNC Health’s mission and culture, and an important addition to our leadership team.”
Lindsay will begin his new position as UNC Health continues to build on its goal of uniting UNC Health’s entities across North Carolina and the UNC School of Medicine by creating a shared culture and strategy, with a focus on our patients and teammates.
“For a long time, I’ve been impressed with UNC Health’s focus on improving the health and well-being of communities throughout North Carolina while providing world class education, research, and clinical care,” Lindsay said. “I’m thrilled to join a team making such an important impact for people across our state.”
As Lindsay begins at UNC Health, Tammy Scarborough, who has served as UNC Health’s interim COO and President of Statewide Region, will move into a new leadership role as Chief Administrative Officer and President of Statewide Region. One of her duties will be to oversee NC Care, a new partnership between UNC Health and ECU Health that will improve care in rural, Eastern North Carolina.
Lindsay is a native of Alabama. He has an M.H.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and obtained his B.S. in Health Administration from Auburn University.
He also has deep roots in North Carolina. He’s served as the past board chair of the N.C. Healthcare Association, and led a team to create Greater Winston Salem Inc, which is the economic development engine for the Triad Region. He has held key leadership roles with the Winston Salem Foundation and Winston Salem Alliance, and supports the Winston Salem Forsyth County Arts Council, the WS Symphony, and Reynolda House Museum of American Art.
