UNC researchers lead clinical trial evaluating potential treatment for postpartum depression
A phase 2, double-blind study of the investigational medication, brexanolone, in the treatment of women with severe PPD published in The Lancet. Clinical trials are currently underway at UNC.

Hormone therapy could effectively prevent depression for some women in the menopause transition
Research conducted by Susan Girdler, PhD, and David Rubinow, MD, and published in JAMA Psychiatry, is the first to conclude that a year of hormone therapy can effectively prevent the onset of depressive symptoms for women during the menopause transition.

Funds Available in the UNC Lymphedema Program
Thanks to the generosity of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, eligible breast cancer patients who develop lymphedema may apply for funds awarded to the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to provide them with compression garments and wraps critical to their therapeutic intervention.

Blog: Less restrictive guidelines issued on vaginal birth after c-section
Last week the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists released new guidelines that say, “Attempting a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is a safe and appropriate choice for most women who have had a prior cesarean delivery, including for some women who have had two previous cesareans.”

The Carolina Women’s Center is accepting applications for its Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 Faculty Scholar. This program offers UNC-Chapel Hill faculty the opportunity to serve as a Faculty Scholar for the CWC for one semester. One Faculty Scholar will be chosen for each award semester.
