The Alliance for Black Doulas for Black Mamas (ABDBM) graduated its first class of Black Doulas on July 10th. Founded by UNC Family Medicine’s Venus Standard, MSN, CNM, FACNM, LCCE, ABDBM offers an enhanced Doula training program whose goal is to increase access of Doula training to Black women, while improving Black women’s birth outcomes by expanding their access to social, emotional, and educational support from professionally trained Black Doulas.

Nadja Vielot, PhD, assistant professor of Family Medicine was recently awarded a diversity supplement sponsored by the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) to conduct a study of the effectiveness of the recombinant herpes zoster vaccine among older adults using health care utilization data.
