The UNC School of Medicine is seeking a clinical faculty member to serve as the director for the Transition to Residency (TTR) course for all graduating medical students. This position will receive 10% salary support to the NIH cap.

The TTR director will work closely with Individualization Phase leaders and the TTR staff to redesign the curriculum for the TTR course for implementation in March 2022.  The ideal candidate will be an innovative, organized, detail-oriented educator with an interest in curricular design and a knowledge of the important skills necessary for the transition from student to resident.

Specifically, the director will:

  • Redesign the course curriculum to meet changing skills required for the transition to residency, with inclusion of multi-modal educational sessions
  • Work closely with TTR staff on logistic planning to implement a coordinated and effective TTR course
  • Work closely with specialty leaders to create focused boot camp experiences
  • Facilitate teaching sessions in the TTR course as needed
  • Meet expectations for other Individualization Phase Course Directors including commitment to ongoing Diversity Equity and Inclusion training, attend Individualization Phase meetings monthly and implement decisions made at IP meetings and Education Committee Meetings

The co-director should have flexibility in their clinical schedule during the TTR block (traditionally held each March).

Self-nominations as well as nominations by chairs, division chiefs, or colleagues are welcome. Top candidates will be interviewed. Nominations and applications (including a statement of interest and updated CV) will be accepted by Dr. Sarah Smithson (sarah_smithson@med.unc.edu), Assistant Dean for Clinical Education, until Friday, July 30, 2021.
