Li Qian, PhD, received the annual award, which recognizes graduate faculty who provide outstanding support and guidance to their doctoral students.

Li Qian, Ph.D., has received The Graduate School’s 2022 Faculty Award for Excellence in Doctoral Mentoring. The annual award recognizes graduate faculty who provide outstanding support and guidance to their doctoral students.
Qian served on nearly two-dozen thesis committees and currently is serving 12 graduate students in mentorship and thesis work as part of her service in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the UNC School of Medicine. She is also the associate director of the McAllister Heart Institute.
Quian’s nomination letters highlighted that she thinks and cares deeply, prioritizes the well-being of her students, discusses successful and failed experiments, and looks ahead toward milestones and long-term career goals.
