SOM Professor and Two Graduates Receive 2019-2020 LGBTIQA+ Advocacy Awards

Brad Figler, MD, associate professor of urology, received the award for his work creating the UNC Transgender Health Program as a way to support coordination and quality of care for transgender patients. Recent SOM graduates Noa Nessim, MD, and Margo Faulk, MD, received their awards for starting the Gender Affirming Care Clinic at UNC’s Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC, the nation’s first student-run free clinic).

UNC School of Medicine Ranked First for Primary Care for Third Straight Year

In the category of overall research, the UNC School of Medicine was ranked 23rd. The School of Medicine was ranked 3rd in family medicine, up from 4th last year. Also moving up in ranks are psychiatry, which gained one position to 19th, and internal medicine tied for the 24th spot, up from 26th last year. Obstetrics and gynecology, along with pediatrics, also made the list of top residencies in the country receiving 12th and 18th rankings, respectively.
