UNC School of Medicine Researchers Take on Chronic Skin Condition
Chris Sayed, MD, professor of dermatology, Yun Li, PhD, professor of genetics and biostatistics, and Karen Mohlke, PhD, professor of genetics, were awarded $2.3 million from the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases to study the genetic basis of a chronic skin condition called hidradenitis suppurativa.

Chris Sayed, MD, in the UNC Department of Dermatology, Karen Mohlke, PhD, in the UNC Department of Genetics, and Yun Li, PhD, in the UNC Department of Genetics and the UNC Department of Biostatistics at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, were awarded an R21 NIH grant to study the genetics of a chronic, devastating inflammatory skin disease called hidradenitis supperativa.

Paper vs. electronic: How a dermatology prescription is written affects adherence
Adewole S. Adamson, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at the UNC School of Medicine, found that patients given electronic prescriptions were more likely to pick up and fill their dermatological prescriptions than those patients who were given a traditional, written prescription.

Diaz to step down as Chair of the Department of Dermatology
Luis A. Diaz, MD, C.E. Wheeler, Jr. Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology, has announced that he will be stepping down from the position, effective Dec. 31, after serving in the role for more than 16 years.
