Three years ago a small group of UNC School of Medicine students banded together to create the Carolina Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine. With their first issue under their belts, the endeavor has grown to include a board of faculty advisors and more than 100 additional students. And they’re not done yet.

UNC School of Medicine, the World Health Organization, and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute conducted a joint study to find that malaria parasites are spreading undetected across the Horn of Africa, posing a major health threat to the region. Lead UNC lead investigator Jonathan Parr, MD, MPH, is senior author of this Nature Microbiology paper.

The American Burn Association (ABA) conducted a site visit on June 18, 2021 of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. The ABA Burn Center Verification Review Committee approved the site report and has approved the Burn Center for re-verification as an Adult and Pediatric Burn Center through July 31, 2024. They commend the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center for its commitment to excellence and its dedication to providing quality burn care to patients.
