This was the first year that the School of Medicine participated in the WES. Eligible staff and non-physician faculty provided feedback with an overall participation rate of 61.9%. A physician engagement survey is set for 2022.

Cephus Simmons graduated in 2012 with a Master’s in Radiologic Science from the Division of Radiologic Science within the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Allied Health Sciences. A 25-year career in the radiology field cultivated his affinity for innovative problem-solving, leading to his most recent endeavor - the launch of SealCath and a shift to full-time business owner.

Department of Allied Health Sciences Audiology students Alyssa Fischer and Ryan Sprouse received a check for $5,000 as the winner of the 2021 ADA Student Business Plan competition.

Khalilah Johnson, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy in the Department of Allied Health Sciences in the UNC School of Medicine. The $250,000 grant will support her project, Disrupting the Cycle of Inaccessible Healthcare and Community Supports for Minoritized People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Dr. Martha Fairbanks Perry, MD, has been named Director of Outpatient Quality and Safety for UNC Children’s Hospital. This position will report directly to The Chief Quality Officer for UNC Children’s and Vice Chair for Quality and Safety for the Department of Pediatrics. This appointment reflects Dr. Perry’s continued commitment to serve as a leader in all aspects of outpatient quality and safety in the UNC Children’s service line.

For the second year, the RTI University Scholars Program will prioritize applications for the 2022-2023 academic year from tenured or research-track faculty members at the Associate Professor level or higher with a commitment to collaboration and a research project related to racial and social equity—climate, economic development, educational, energy, environmental, health, and justice—and policy.
