Family Medicine, Piedmont Health Collaborate to Overcome Language and Disability Barriers

A UNC Family Medicine collaboration with Piedmont Health Services and partners has resulted in a $3 million HRSA grant to improve training in overcoming language and disability barriers. The 5-year project, “Primary Care Training and Enhancement - Language and Disability Access to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” is focused on building and developing curriculum and program experiences to enhance the training for medical students and residents.

UNC Awarded $5 million to Assess Intervention for Acute Stress Reactions

The $5-million initiative, led by the UNC School of Medicine and funded through the U.S. Department of Defense, will test the efficacy of an intervention developed at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research originally designed to help service members who experience acute stress reactions during military operations. Sam McLean, MD, MPH, professor of psychiatry and emergency medicine, is the principal investigator.
