Linda Kelly, a 66-year-old mother of four daughters, was diagnosed with breast cancer 20 years ago and received treatment that included a mastectomy and radiation. The medical intervention saved her life but led to some later complications that forced her to seek additional care. COVID-19 almost brought a complete stop to Linda's medical care but after meeting with doctors at UNC, they immediately admitted her and started her on the road to recovery.

Stephen Heisler, DPM, MHSA, is a podiatrist and an assistant professor in the division of vascular surgery at UNC Surgery in Chapel Hill, NC. Center for Transplant Care 50th Anniversary Celebration

The program’s major milestone was celebrated in the lobby of the UNC Children’s Hospital Monday morning with speeches from physicians that have made the program possible, along with a kidney transplant patient and his living donor.

Site preparations will begin in late September 2018 for the construction of UNC Hospitals’ Surgical Tower, a seven-story building to be built in front of NC Memorial Hospital. The Surgical Tower will offer enhanced space and features for our surgeons and staff, including modernized operating rooms, improved space for recovering patients, and more space for families and guests. When completed in 2022, the Surgical Tower will be the largest building on UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill campus at more than 330,000 square feet. Learn more about what to expect.

The study, based on results from patients treated at UNC Hospitals, found that using genetic testing to inform which blood thinner to use following a procedure to open narrowed blood vessels resulted in significantly fewer complications. George “Rick” Stouffer, III, MD, was a leader of the study.
