This presentation will discuss current knowledge on the association between sensorineural hearing loss & falls as well as a proposed mechanistic model. Preliminary results on whether the association is modified by hearing healthcare intervention (i.e., hearing aids and/or cochlear implants) will also be discussed.
Join the UNC Program for Precision Medicine in Health Care (PPMH) for Machine Learning & Precision Analytics, a free virtual mini-symposium from 1-3pm on Wednesday April 14. Presenters will explore information sources, data science tools that use the information, and the application of the resulting findings to health care. Another theme will be sources of bias in machine learning and how that bias can be minimized or eliminated.

In this seminar, Cathi Propper, PhD, will focus on early predictors of cognitive outcomes in preschool age children. Specifically, prenatal experience such as stress, inflammation, and nutrition play a critical role in shaping childhood developmental trajectories and they differ by sociodemographic status. Prenatal experience may also influence infant sleep across the first year of life, which may act as a mediator of the relationship between prenatal experience and cognitive outcomes.
