UNC SOM student members of the Farmworker Student Health Alliance (FSHA) are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by making fabric masks for farmworkers in North Carolina and creating educational videos in Spanish to help these at-risk workers stay healthy.

UNC Health remains committed to the educational mission and is eager to return our students in the health professions into the clinical settings. We anticipate students in various fields such as medicine, nursing, allied health disciplines, and others will gradually return to UNC Health hospitals and clinics in late May and June.

On August 28, 2019, the Teaching Scholars Program graduated 14 faculty from the year-long program. At the ceremony, the Scholars presented their scholarly work, on a variety of topics, aimed to enhance the medical education environment at the School of Medicine.

Physician Leadership in Quality and Safety Scholarly Concentration is designed for 4th year medical students with an interest in quality improvement in healthcare. Students work closely with a mentor on a quality improvement project over the course of a year and present their findings at an annual symposium.

On September 16, the UNC School of Medicine Class of 2021 was formally welcomed with the annual White Coat Ceremony. The event, held this year at the Durham Performing Arts Center, is an opportunity for students, along with their families and friends, to celebrate their accomplishments and look forward to the beginning of their medical training and career.
