Chineme Enyioha, MD, MPH, assistant professor in the UNC Department of Family Medicine, was recently awarded a K23 Career Development Award for a study entitled, “Development of a prototype for a mobile health intervention for smoking cessation with features culturally adapted for African American smokers.” Enyioha will focus her work on creating a mobile cessation system specifically targeted at African American smokers.

In partnership with multiple community agencies across the Triangle, the UNC Center for Women’s Health Research has received funding—approximately $2.5 million per year for five years—from the National Institutes of Health Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to identify effective strategies for implementing pregnancy-related hypertension best practices in the outpatient setting.

UNC Hospitals has opened a call for applications for its next designated institutional official/chief GME officer. This role reports directly to the CMO for UNC Hospitals and is responsible for leading the UNC Hospitals' GME enterprise. Applications are due by Nov. 21.

David Weber, MD, MPH, was elected as the incoming vice president of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) during the group’s meeting held in conjunction with Infectious Diseases Week, an international conference, in Washington, D.C., in October.

Led by Chirag Desai, MD, professor of surgery, the Chronic Pancreatitis and Autologous Islet Cell Transplant Program has been nationally recognized as an approved NPF Center by the National Pancreas Foundation.

Nicole (Nikki) Hughes, LE, joined the UNC Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery as an academic aesthetician.

The UNC School of Medicine is seeking head career goal advisors to assist and advise students who are interested in applying into family medicine, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology and general surgery.

The award recognizes outstanding basic science research. Leading achievements in clinical and/or translational research can also qualify. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 8
