Jill Fisher, PhD, will write a scholarly book on the medicalization and pharmaceuticalization of food allergies. The book will explore how American families navigate food allergies as a part of everyday life as well as a condition that increasingly justifies risky and/or burdensome therapeutic interventions.

This newly-created position will develop and oversee the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Research Administration Services, which is being created to better serve the research functions of our departments and centers, reduce risk and improve efficiencies through process improvement. This position will advise school leadership on research policy and provide guidance and direction application strategies and on compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements.

The Head and Neck Surgery team represented UNC-Chapel Hill at the 11th Annual International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer with oral and poster presentations, and a second place winning poster by Jason Tasoulas.

The project will focus on workflows to increase the timeliness and comprehensiveness of postpartum care, a virtual maternal-fetal medicine specialty consultation service including e-consult and telehealth capability for women with high-risk conditions served at rural community health centers, and support for community doula training and the development of a community doula collaborative in rural Chatham County.

Springer recently released "Chronic Illness Care, Principles and Practice," edited by UNC Family Medicine's Timothy P. Daaleman, DO, MPH, and Margaret R. Helton, MD. Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine, faculty across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, and other national and international experts wrote the textbook.

Graduate Research Assistant Darla McDonald won the audiology poster award at the American Cochlear Implant Alliance meeting for her presentation of a case study of a cochlear implant recipient with reported catastrophic tinnitus in the implanted ear who participated in clinical research aimed at improving individual patient outcomes.

Adam Goldstein, MD, MPH, traveled to the White House on June 1 for the Cancer Moonshot Smoking Cessation Forum. The meeting highlighted the Biden Administration’s commitment to tackling the single biggest driver of cancer deaths in this country—smoking—and efforts underway across sectors to equitably expand access to effective smoking cessation support.
