FDA Approves ZULRESSO™ (brexanolone) Injection for Postpartum Depression Following Three Clinical Trials Led by UNC Researcher
ZULRESSO, developed by Sage Therapeutics, is the first and only treatment specifically indicated to treat postpartum depression in women. UNC School of Medicine’s Samantha Meltzer-Brody, MD, MPH, was the principal investigator for three clinical trials showing rapid-reduction in depressive symptoms, and says the approval marks a major step forward in women’s healthcare.

New Professional Business Attire Policy, Effective April 1
On April 1, UNC Medical Center will implement a new Professional Business Attire policy. The policy is designed to create standards for professional appearance in order to foster a positive working environment, promote workplace safety, and inspire confidence in quality care service delivery. This policy applies to all personnel performing services for/at UNC Medical Center, including volunteers, research personnel, students, staff, and providers at all levels.

Dr. Cristy Page Named School of Medicine Executive Dean
Cristy Page, MD, MPH, Chair of UNC Family Medicine, has been named Executive Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, effective February 18, 2019. This leadership position was vacated when Dr. Wesley Burks assumed the dual role of Dean of the School of Medicine and CEO of UNC Health Care.

John Stackhouse, founder of the NC Jaycee Burn Center, passed away
Stackhouse pledged $40,000 to help establish the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals. In addition, he provided a gift to establish the John Stackhouse Distinguished Professorship and lecture series in 1994 and to provide continued support for the Burn Center.

All six basic science departments rank in the top 10 in NIH finding, according to a new report by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research, and 11 clinical departments rank in the top 30.

Muenzer Presents Additional Results from Groundbreaking Genome Editing Clinical Trial
Interim results presented by UNC’s Joseph Muenzer, MD, PhD, provide preliminary evidence that in vivo genome editing occurred in a clinical trial testing a treatment for Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II (MPS II), also known as Hunter syndrome.
