Tax Preparation Assistance
Employees needing help with their tax preparation may qualify for free assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). Tax prep will not be onsite this year but will be available at VITA locations across NC, and qualified employees can have their taxes prepared at State Employee Credit Union.

Parking Deduction Corrections for UNC Hospitals Employees
On Jan. 9 paychecks for UNC Hospitals employees, parking deductions were erroneously taken as an after tax deduction. To correct this, on your Jan. 23 paycheck, the after-tax deduction will be reversed and added to your current pre-tax parking deduction. On your pay stub, you will see one double-deduction (pre-tax) and one single, reversing deduction (after-tax). The combination of the two should equate to the normal deduction taken biweekly from your check.

Habitat for Humanity Homes Available
A pair of Habitat for Humanity homes are available in Orange County. Potential homebuyers must obtain a pre-approval letter from the bank or credit union and attend an 8-hour Homebuyer Education Class. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Transportation and Parking Impacts
Chapel Hill Transit will operate a Saturday schedule on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Additionally, the university will be closed. UNC Hospitals shuttles will operate on a normal schedule. More details here.

The House that Caring Built: Volunteers needed for Habitat for Humanity project
Volunteers are needed to help build a Habitat for Humanity home sponsored by UNC Health Care. The home will be owned by Anna-Marie Pellet with Medical Center Environmental Services. Anna-Marie’s home will be located at 301 College Park Rd., less than 1 mile from the UNC Hillsborough Hospital campus. No construction skills are necessary.
