Meghan E. Rebuli, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, and her team with the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology, had their publication, "Electronic-cigarette use alters nasal mucosal immune response to live-attenuated influenza virus. A clinical trial." named Extramural Paper of the Month for February 2021 by the NIEHS Environmental Factor.

In March, Devin Hubbard's days were filled with phone calls, Zoom meetings, and design tests as he and his team at FastTraCS worked around the clock to engineer new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designs in response to COVID-19. Ten months later, as millions of Americans adjust to the "new normal" of pandemic life, Hubbard and his colleagues are busier than ever. They have successfully engineered a frame that can improve both the fit and comfort of existing face masks.

Linda Kelly, a 66-year-old mother of four daughters, was diagnosed with breast cancer 20 years ago and received treatment that included a mastectomy and radiation. The medical intervention saved her life but led to some later complications that forced her to seek additional care. COVID-19 almost brought a complete stop to Linda's medical care but after meeting with doctors at UNC, they immediately admitted her and started her on the road to recovery.
