What is the Walk for UNC Children’s?
The Walk for UNC Children’s is our biggest opportunity yet to recognize and celebrate everything that makes the hospital so great. It’s a chance to show our support for the hospital’s mission of caring for every child who comes through our doors no matter what. It’s a platform to showcase the discoveries and innovation of our researchers. It’s also a time to tell the stories of the courageous children and families we serve – and a challenge to all of us to walk a mile in their shoes.
The Walk for UNC Children’s will raise money for the hospital through sponsorships and through teams of participants who ask for donations on the hospital’s behalf.
When will the Walk for UNC Children’s take place and where will it happen?
The Walk for UNC Children’s takes place on November 4 at Midtown Park in Raleigh, rain or shine. It will start at 9am.
Who can participate in the walk?
Everyone is welcome to join us.
What do you mean “walk a mile in the shoes of our patients?”
In the weeks before the walk, patients and families will describe how they overcome the challenges they face. To help others gain perspective, some may issue challenges to teams that resemble their own experiences. One patient may challenge a team to adopt a special diet for a week, or monitor blood sugar regularly, or tour the hospital to see what it’s like. Embracing someone else’s perspective for a moment can be a very valuable experience, and we know North Carolinians are up to the challenge.
How do I sponsor, register, or get more information?
A Walk for UNC Children’s website is in the works. In the meantime, Anna Lee Clark is UNC Children’s Director of Special Events and is the person to ask. She can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
