UNC Children's Named to "Best Hospitals" List

UNC Children’s has been named to U.S. News & World Report’s list of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals" with nine clinical categories honored, up from seven last year.

For the ninth year in a row, UNC Children’s has been named to U.S. News & World Report’s list of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.”

UNC Children’s is now nationally ranked in nine clinical categories, up from seven a year ago.  The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology achieved a top-ten ranking, and several subspecialties improved their rankings from a year ago. Rankings include: 

  • 9th in Pulmonology
  • 18th in Orthopedics
  • 24th in Cancer 
  • 27th in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
  • 28th in Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • 37th in Nephrology
  • 47th in Neonatology
  • 47th in Cardiology and Heart Surgery 
  • 48th in Neurology and Neurosurgery

“We are pleased with the recognition.  It is a testament to the hardworking team at UNC Children’s and to the reputation of our research and education programs,” said Dr. Kevin J. Kelly, interim chair of the department of pediatrics at the UNC School of Medicine. “We have a fierce commitment to quality improvement, because it affects the lives of children and families.  We’re poised for even more advances in the future.”
